Also see, George's first graphic novel, "Jumping Jack".

In Curse of the Pharaohs, Hawass details the secrets of ancient Egypt-and shows what it is like to be an archaeologist. From ancient germs and vipers to age-old curses and crumbling tombs, the dangers of his profession are real. But so too are the rewards. Uncovering artifacts that have gone thousands of years without seeing the light of day is. The Curse of the Pharaohs is the second book in the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters, and my first on audiobook read by the incomparable Barbara Rosenblat. The Mummy’s Curse (or the Curse of the Pharaohs) seems like the kind of myth that is as old as the pyramids, but in reality, the modern conception of a powerful curse that protects the bodies of the pharaohs from harm is largely a modern invention, one derived from several separate threads that converged around a single sensational event.

Aug 17,  · The Curse of the Pharaohs, second of the Amelia Peabody saga by Elizabeth Peters, is not quite as good as the first volume, Crocodile on the Sandbank. This is because the first book was intended to stand alone, as a mystery novel set in Egypt during the Edwardian age, and as such was practically perfect/5().

I originally rated this book stars but after reading the 3rd in the series, I decided I should rated this one higher. I enjoy these books so much - I pretty much bookmarked half the book - that I should reflect that in my rating. The Curse of the Pharaohs is set 5 years after Amelia & Emerson's4/5.

The curse of the pharaohs is an alleged curse believed by some to be cast upon any person who disturbs the mummy of an Ancient Egyptian person, especially a pharaoh. This curse, which does not differentiate between thieves and archaeologists, allegedly can cause bad luck, illness or death.

In this highly readable first-hand account, world-famous Egyptologist and spellbinding storyteller Dr. Zahi Hawass shares some of the many intriguing tales about the legendary "curse of the pharaohs"-including several of his own experiences with it/5.

Do not, gentle reader, be misled by this introductory statement. It is accurate (as my statements always are). Providentially, a damsel in distress - coupled with a promising archaeological site - demands their immediate presence in Egypt.

The damsel is Lady Baskerville, and the site is a tomb in Luxor recently discovered by Sir Henry Baskerville - who promptly died under bizarre circumstances.

The tabloids immediately scream "The Curse of the Pharaohs!". What other book might you compare The Curse of the Pharaohs to, and why.

There's nothing quite like it, except of course her other Amelia Peabody books. What does Barbara Rosenblat bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book. She expresses the characters splendidly with the different voices she brings to it.
